LAD dissection
2004-04-21 03:27:23
I have been diagnosed with a dissected LAD, ( 20mm ).
Troponin was 3.9 Heart Cath shows all clear except for the dissected LAD. Currently using Toporol, Plavix, and aspirin. What type of recovery could I expect, and could I expect to return to normal athletic activity ? (competitive cyclist) Thanks.

(competitive cyclist) Near immediate depending on the healing of the puncture wound in your femoral artery. Your cardiologist should have advised you on how many days of rest before resuming strenuous activity (typically 3-7 days). > Thanks. You are welcome. An additional concern would be whether your lipid profile is optimal for someone with coronary disease. If not, statins should be considered as a measure of secondary prevention. Because you suffered a heart attack, an ACE inhibitor should be considered to prevent remodeling of your myocardium. Servant to the humblest person in the universe, Andrew -- Dr. Andrew B. Hmm,...no I was not. They, of course, suspected blockage are were set to stent, but all was clear when they found the 20mm dissection. They removed the cath and I have been placed on meds only,... I found that puzzling. Would you think so as well,..?? > > > Currently using Toporol, Plavix, and aspirin. > > > > What type of recovery could I expect, and could I expect to > > return to normal athletic activity ? He stated I would not race again, and would not entertain me being on my bike for six weeks, and then it was, "we'll talk",... > An additional concern would be whether your lipid profile is optimal for > someone with coronary disease. Hmm,...yeah, but I cannot remember any of the lipid results. Guess I will have to get a copy and find out what they were,... Thanks for you assistance.

That was with the guess that you were stented, which apparently did not happen. > The dissection is a 20mm tear, not exactly a > puncture. If you were stented, the dissection would have been "fixed." The puncture was referring to how the catheter entered into your femoral (groin) artery. > > He stated I would not race again, and would not entertain me being on > my bike for six weeks, and then it was, "we'll talk",... > It sounds like your cardiologist has unilaterally decided what choices you would have. > > > An additional concern would be whether your lipid profile is optimal for > > someone with coronary disease.
