She tried to reinstall, as her computer will stay operational until she tries to go online and you have to be online to get the patches, upgrades, etc. Thanks anyway.

Have a friend get the patches/fixes and put them on CD. If you can't install them from CD, try Safe Mode, which I think is F8.
