Re: VR Editing

By line rate, I would prefer typing it all out because editing takes longer
wherein I could have it done much faster and done right. That's just my take and probably not shared by most. I type really fast. In editing, having to remove what was wrong and put in what was right takes more time than just typing it right to begin with. That's why I don't do editing being paid by the line. Yes, in some cases it is easier to just type it out, but if you only had to type out 25% of your regular work and the rest just edit, all at the same line rate, which would you prefer?>> Not having edited this way, I can't say for sure. As long as I was getting paid a line rate that enabled me to make as much or more than I do now it might be interesting. But then, as someone pointed out, sometimes you just see what you hear and with VR those errors might be easier to miss. Another qustion I would have is what about style? If one MT is using strict or close to it AAMT style and another isn't on the same docs wouldn't the accuracy be affected. Say dates. If the doc gives dates as "He was last seen on "two twenty five" meaning February 25 and one MT types it 02/25, another 2/25, and a third correctly per AAMT write out as February 25, what happens to the "learning process." Or are the doctors trained they must say February 25 because otherwise a cholesterol of 225 might be mistaken for a date? I'm sour on this stuff anyway, as I saw this happen with a client I had. Doctors using handhelds and only given minimal training on how to dictate, then voice run through VR and allegedly edited by human MTs. The work still returned needing to be edited and the office didn't care enough or know enough to make the MTs edit against the voice file (like they had time anyway).
